Chris was one of six children. He was born in Whitby and brought up in Scarborough. After leaving school he was sponsored to study Engineering at Cambridge University by Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd. (VSEL) of Barrow-in-Furness. Whilst at Cambridge Chris dramatically came to faith in Jesus Christ, and became a member of the Baptist Church there. After completing his engineering studies Chris returned to Barrow and worked for VSEL in production engineering, planning and IT. At St. Mark’s Church in Barrow, Chris met and married Mandy, and their first son, Thomas (now 17)was born. As peace began to break out across the world Chris took voluntary redundancy from VSEL; He came to live in Rotherham and work for Swift Levick Magnets in Sheffield. Here he worked on the factory floor and learnt to drive a fork-lift truck. Jonathan (now 9) was born in Rotherham and Chris and the family were members of St. Mary’s Greasbrough. In the last years before training for ministry Chris worked at Metalliform at Hoyland, where he worked in production whilst updating management procedures. The family travelled north for Chris to train for ministry at Cranmer Hall in Durham. He spent 4 years as curate at St. Polycarp’s, Malin Bridge, and has been with us at St. John's for the last 4 years. He enjoys playing basketball on Fridays where his nickname in the team is ‘Dibley’. He still loves practising his engineering skills - repairing things which break down and rebuilding old cars and camper vans. Our Curate, Dave Gough, will be joining us in July. Dave (36) writes: I was born in Sheffield and attended what was Jordanthorpe Comprehensive School now Meadowhead. I have been married for 7 years and my wife has just finished training as a Midwife. Before I left Sheffield to train at St John's Nottingham I was living in Beighton and worked as a Trainer and Manager at HSBC in the City Centre of Sheffield and also had the opportunity to travel to India on three separate occasion to train HSBC staff there. I will be taking up my Curacy at St John's, Park at the end of June. I am looking forward to working in an Inner City parish and meeting the people who live there and finding out what God has planned for my future. I have 2 springer spaniels and I enjoy walking them, gardening and one of my passions is Rugby Union and following the England rugby team.
